Get rid of fruit waste and create an essential ingredient!

Some people reach a weekly money loss of up to 10£ per person due domestic food waste and the monthly total can reach 120 £ per family, these foods are on the 78% of the times, fruits and vegetables

Today, I am going to teach you the essentials in order to increase your monthly budget up to 30 £pp, you will feel smart and proud of yourself!

I like to think that we are heading towards a world of “less food waste” and  more sustainability, and “more responsible” manipulation of the ingredients available in the house!

As my grandmother used to do for sixty years preparing a delicious jam with every kind of fruit that was mature and ready to go… either citrus or bananas, apples or pears! I can remember the perfumes of ripe fruits in her kitchen in winter time as per summer season!

That’s why We decided to show an example of “how to use jam in cocktails” with our zero alcohol jam shakes ! Fruits are an incredible source of Vitamins and minerals, they can be enjoyed in cocktail just being processed in a jam, with just some sugar and a coronation of fresh lemon zest, sometimes spiced with fresh cardamoms or a charmin.

we all waste fruits

Especially us who live abroad, far from mummy’s home and far away from the guidance of our parents, we don’t feel too bad when something goes to the bin, because we have left it sitting on the bottom shelf of our fridge for weeks! Imagine those black ultra ripe bananas, those lemons who become hard as stones, those apples as old as creation, they haver a second life, they deserve to be treated as good as they used to be in the good days.

It’s a waste of money, it’s not good for the environment, it’s socially a sense of guilt to waste food… I don’t need to remember you how bad is starvation and how bad you will feel when you smash any kind of food in the rubbish

But here I am … I am going to teach you how we can easily introduce these old boys into our tasty mixed drinks, I guarantee that there is a simple way, an economic way and they will taste just delicious.

  1. wash, open, slice and mince 6 small sized figs, put them in a saucepan with their skin.
  2. add 200 g of caster sugar, better using the sugar that says “for preserves” on the pack, it usually comes thinner and dilutes earlier and better
  3. cook for 25 minutes until the compote becomes very similar to a puree
  4. keep stirring continuously and check often if you don’t want to burn it!
  5. you will see when it’s ready, it will fall slowly from your spoon due to it’s thick creaminess.
