King’s road, and an overview of Chelsea!
Positioned a stone’s throw from the royal residence and the waters of the Thames, King’s road was in antiquity the private road of King Charles II (1660) and remained so until 1860. It marked the journey of the King on his out-of-town excursions. just take a jump on wikipedia to discover the long list of famous people who inhabited it from the eighteenth century onwards.
Chelsea, history of a few centuries ago.
Since the Victorian era, few footsteps away from the Kensington Gardens, residence of the Royal family that gave birth to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, made it a destination for the most wealthy and aristocratic families who spent whole days in luxurious ceremonial parties wearing wonderful dresses, incredible houses and cottages that still Today are magically flowered and colorful in their private gardens, Chelsea since 1870 was a worldly destination for afternoon tea, and the consumption of Gin Tonic.
we can not avoid to mention the very important “Chelsea flower show” celebrated since 1862, the world center of floral exhibition, sponsored and organized by the Royal Hospital and the Royal Horticultural Society. Takes place in May, in the area included within the Royal Hospital, near Sloane Square.
Fashion and clothing in Chelsea has always been a moving movement. The mini skirt was designed here for the first time in a boutique in King’s Road, just where we stroll defiantly on our free days.
A hub for antiques and luxury furniture, today you can admire boutiques with an irresistible charm in Fulham road and in the area of “Lots Road”. Home to major hospitals, some of which are dedicated to childhood diseases, today they have been transformed into luxury apartments, but the 19th century signs remain on the facade of this building on the bank of the Thames, in Cheyne Walk.
